Upcoming events for 2015

With two group sculpture shows in the Lavit Gallery and the Wandesford Quay, its a busy spring season for sculpture in Cork. In the summer I will show work with Olivier Cornet in the historic building of 5 cavendish row. But in between I will be squeezing in a stone symposium in the Netherlands, which I am very much looking forward to as with all symposiums it will be a chance to meet other sculptors and do what we love - carve stone. 

2012

2012 will see me exhibiting work in the 182nd Royal Hibernian Academy's annual exhibition in the invited artist section which will open in late May.

I will also be participating in the Clones Stone Symposium in Co. Monaghan in May, I am looking forward to working the local sandstone to produce a cylindrical pillar carved in relief with patterns based on Clones Lace. 

Presently, I am getting ready to site two commissions for two VEC schools one in Sligo and one in Donabate so its flat out in the studio at the moment. This is also in additon to sending work out to Sweden for a show which is to open in June. 

In other news I am delighted to be joined in representation with the Norman Gallery, Wexford with the Olivier Cornet Gallery in Templebar, Dublin. Having had a very succesful opening to the inaugral group show at the gallery I wish Olivier every succes with his new venture.

2011.Recently back from a symposium in Kirkudbright Scotland where seven sculptors and two assistants worked on large blocks of St. Bees red sandstone. The works that were produced were gifted to the town and will be sited in various locations inits scenic environs.

I went to Kirkudbright with the intention of creating a piece that would have local significance and felt that it should relate to the vibrant fishing industry which is a central in the life of the town. The pretty harbour which adjoined the town square, where the sculptors were stationed, provided the direct inspiration for the work in the piles of fishing nets with their intricatley hand-tied knots that were to be found there. 'Knot Yet' as the piece is titled, sees the knot work enlarged, with the net draping and enclosing the natural form of the boulder.  It is my hope that the sculpture which is also designed to be a seat will be sited in the harbour area in proximate location to the nets and also to take in the lovely views of the estuary.

Attending the symposium was a wonderful experience where I was inspired by the other artists and overwhelmed by the hospitality, generosity and towns spirit of Kircudbright and the passionate efforts of the symposiums organisers and supporters. Overall the commitment of the towns people to its traditions and to arts and culture will be an enduring memory.

My solo show at the Norman Gallery, Monksgrange, Rathnure, Enniscorthy, Wexford which ran from August 20th 2011 untill September 4th presented over fifty works and was comprised of several small scale stone pieces and over thirty pen and ink drawings and cut paper works.
