Springtime in Big Sur and the Monterey Peninsula
4th Annual Wildflowers and Color Photo Workshop
April 17-20, 2011
Springtime in Big Sur means green rolling hills, lush spring flowers, a hidden calla liliy grove, enticing sunsets, and misty sunrises. Join me as I will guide you through this coastal paradise. Journey through a land of towering redwoods, fresh water waterfalls, hidden coves and arches and miles of the most dramatic shoreline you'll ever have the pleasure of photographing. Beauty is everywhere and you will experience Big Sur the way it was meant to be seen, uncrowded and little or no fog. We will begin this workshop on a Tuesday afternoon and end with a sunset shoot on Friday evening. These dates will allow us to experience this area without the usual crunch of tourists as many of the spots we will be visiting are also popular tourist destinations.
My workshops place a heavy emphasis on the visual side of photography with location photography being the number one priority. I limit my groups to no more than (12) students and always have a qualified second instructor with us at all times. We spend our afternoons concentrating on various software training (Photoshop) from workflow to specialized techniques geared towards optimizing your landscape images along with (2) image review sessions. The Photoshop training will include: basic workflow, Levels, Curves, color correction, sharpening, adjusment layers, masks, burning and dodging techniques and RAW conversion. We will also look at software from Nik and HDR processing with Photomatix Pro.
We will also be adding a night of star trail photography, and we will photograph a moonset at dawn at beautiful Garrapata State Park (weather permitting)!
I will be assisted in this workshop by Gary Hart.
Places we plan to visit include:
- Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park
- Point Lobos
- Sobranes Point

- Pfeiffer Beach
- Rocky Point
- Andrew Molera State Park
