WELCOME TO LISA P. OSWALD'S StudioMonotype.com

I created my first monotype at the Contemporary Artist’s Center in North Adams, MA, in 1999, and that moment changed my life. I instantly fell in love with the monotype process—the spontaneity, the serendipity, the element of surprise. For me, making monotypes is a leap of faith. I give myself over to the process and the process leads to its own result. So there’s always a spirit of freedom in my work.

All my images are interpretations of live model sketches. Highly abstracted, somewhat ambiguous and often provocative, my work blurs the line between how we see ourselves versus how others see us. While there are accepted notions of beauty and form, I’m not a representational artist. To my eye, there are infinite numbers of ways to represent the power, strength and spirit of women.
